Assam government will increase the rate of testing for COVID-19 to 1 lakh tests per day.
The decision has been taken by the government after 50,000 positive cases were reported in the state on August 4.
Assam now presently tests 55-60 thousand tests per day.
It may be mentioned here that there has been a wide range of positive rates of COVID-19 in the several districts of Assam, ranging from 1.5 per cent to 21 per cent.
Health department officials are of the view that this difference in positive rates exists due to the level of hygiene awareness among the residents.
Health officials believe that increasing the number of testing would also help in the management of COVID-19 cases.
