The COVID-19 pandemic has gripped every section of the society and Assam police is no exception to it.

Until Saturday, a total of 3310 Assam police personnel have tested positive for the coronavirus infection.

Moreover, 11 police personnel have succumbed to the infection as well and 2698 personnel have recovered so far as well.

In a tweet, ADGP (Law & order) GP Singh said, “The infection so far has claimed 11 personnel from the department.”

Meanwhile, Chirang Police on Saturday organised a condolence meeting for ASI (Opr) Kameswar Lahkar of APRO who succumbed to the infection of Friday night.

In a tweet, the Chirang Police said, “Today a condolence assembly was held in SP Office Chirang where tributes were paid to Late ASI (Opr) Kameswar Lahkar of APRO posted in Bijni PS. He took his last breath bravely fighting Covid19 on 19/08/2020. We salute his sacrifice.”

Condolences were also paid by Dhubri Police to their colleague who succumbed to the infection.

In a tweet, Dhubri police said, “Our Gratitude to our beloved #coronawarrior #martyr DSB HC Lt Robi Charan Ray, 57 Yrs who fought Cancer and COVID-19 at the same time till evening of 20-08-2020 after rendering remarkable Public Service since 16-09-1987 till his last breath. You shall Live forever!”

 

Right from the onset of the pandemic, the police have been at the forefront of the battle and with the recent spike, the force has been hit badly by the virus.
