Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Thursday asked the Directorate of Archaeology, Assam, to prepare a vision plan through ground level study for developing Sivasagar as an iconic site.

Sonowal directed this while taking part in a review meeting to discuss various issues related to the development of Sivasagar as an iconic site.

Sonowal, while laying stress on the rich heritage of Sivasagar, asked the directorate to carry out a physical survey of all the protected and listed historical sites.

He directed to identify and divide the sites into cultural, social, spiritual and sports depending on their use at the time of construction.

Sonowal also advised the directorate to prepare a detail background report of all the historical sites and a video of the monuments of the Ahom era.

He also stressed on early steps for the beautification of the sites and working out a tourist circuit making the best possible use of tourism potential of the district.

Sonowal, moreover, advised the directorate to urge the people to provide the government with all documents or manuscripts available with them relating to the Ahom era so that same could be used in the vision plan.

He also asked Sivasagar and Charaideo deputy commissioners to settle all boundary related issues of the historical sites in consultation with local people.

All issues pertaining to the development of Charaideo Moidam site for the World Heritage Site status were also discussed in the meeting.

Sonowal, while reviewing the same, asked the DCs to follow up all relevant issues with concerned authorities and complete early demarcation of the border of the Moidam site.
