Guwahati: Acting on a tip, police intercepted two trucks illegally transporting cattle at the Jorabat link road along the Assam-Meghalaya border on Tuesday, rescuing 60 cattle heads.

Based on intelligence about vehicles loaded with cattle moving from Nagaon towards Meghalaya, a checkpoint was set up early morning.

Two trucks with registration numbers AS02DC1861 and AS01QC2861 were found carrying 30 cattle each.

Four individuals, including the drivers and their helpers, were detained.

They were identified as Shwafikul Islam, Ishak Ali, Khirjul Islam and Rabijul Islam all residents of Nagaon district, Assam.

The rescued cattle are undergoing necessary checks, while legal proceedings against the accused have commenced.
