The kingpin of a cash-for-job scam and Assam Medical College Hospital (AMCH) doctor, Dr Ajanta Hazarika, finally surrendered before the court of chief judicial magistrate (CJM) in Dibrugarh on Monday.

Dr Hazarika was evading arrest in connection with a case (No. 2150/20), registered in Dibrugarh police station.

The CJM court has sent Dr Hazarika to judicial custody after she surrendered before it.

She had been absconding for the last 21 days after filing a case against her in Dibrugarh PS under sections 120B/420/409/406/506 of the Indian Panel Code (IPC).

The case was filed on December 7, 2020.

Dibrugarh Police on Friday arrested Simanta Jyoti Saikia, the husband of Dr Hazarika in connection with the case.

The FIR was filed against Dr Hazarika by Amol Nath at Gabharupathar police outpost in Dibrugarh on December 7, 2020.

In the FIR, Nath alleged that Dr Hazarika had taken about Rs 22 lakh from three job aspirants from Dibrugarh with a promise to provide jobs in the Northeast Frontier Railways (NFR).

Dr Hazarika had been absconding since then.

The two other victims, namely Kishore Deb and Ajay Dutta Biswas, also recorded their statements in Dibrugarh CJM court recently in connection with the cash-for-job scam in the NFR.

The driver of Dr Ajanta Hazarika, Bhola Tiwari also recorded his statement in the court.

It has been alleged that Dr Hazarika had taken money from Amol Nath and the two other complainants promising them government jobs in the NFR.

Nath claimed he had transferred half of the amount to the bank accounts of one Rajeev Pasashar in Six Mile, Guwahati.

In another case, Rajib Parashar was arrested by the crime branch, Guwahati in October 2020 for his alleged involvement in extorting money from candidates of various recruitment examinations for government jobs.
