All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) activists took out rallies and hoisted black flags across Assam during Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to the State.
From Sadiya to Dhubri, AASU activists took out rallies, which were blocked by the police, and hoisted black flags to register their protest against the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
In Guwahati, AASU activists hoisted black flags at the students’ body’s headquarters – Swahid Nyas.
The AASU activists also burnt down posters, where Citizenship Amendment Act was written.
Police blocked the AASU activists from carrying on their protests in other parts of the city.
Meanwhile, there are also reports of face-off between police and AASU activists in Gohpur after black flags were hoisted in the town.
Several AASU activists were detained by the police following the face-off.
The detained AASU activists have been currently kept at the Gohpur Police Station.
Sunday’s protest programme of the AASU is the third day’s protest against the CAA.

The AASU had launched a 3-day stir against the CAA on January 22.
On January 22, AASU activists took out torch-light rallies in protest against the CAA across Assam.
The rallies were blocked by the police.
Face-off between the police and AASU activists were reported from many parts of the State.
While the police and AASU workers engaged in heated face-off in Guwahati and Dibrugarh, police resorted to lathi-charge in Tezpur.
Several AASU workers sustained injuries in the lathi-charge of the police in Tezpur.
On Sunday (January 23), during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Assam, AASU activists donning black badges and masks, staged sit-in demonstrations across the State to mark their protest against the CAA.
Apart from scrapping of the CAA, the AASU is also demanding detection and deportation of illegal Bangladeshi migrants and withdrawal of draft Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) 2020 notification.
