Rohini Kumar Gogoi was allowed to go on bail by the Court of Session judge.

BJP MLA Mrinal Saikia’s close associate Rohini Kumar Gogoi was on Friday granted bail by a local court in Goaghat.

Gogoi was arrested on Monday for his alleged involvement in a firing incident at Habial village on outskirts of Golaghat town.

Unidentified men on January 2 fired upon the house of Rupa and Pranjal Rajkhowa and damaged a Maruti van owned by Binay Baruah at Habial village.

Gogoi, known for his close terms with BJP MLA from Khumtai Mrinal Saikia, was allowed to go on bail by the Court of Session judge here.

Perusal of the case diary reflects nothing for further detention of the accused person in jail for the purpose of further investigation, the court said in its order.

Golaghat police arrested Gogoi after the forensic report confirmed that his licensed pistol was used in the firing incident.

The police registered a case (No 07/2020) under sections 307 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and 25 (1) (A) and 27 of the Arms Act.

Rajkhowa couple and Baruah took initiative in organising an anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) agitation at Ganakpukhuri

The Congress MP from Kaliabor Lok Sabha constituency, Gaurav Gogoi urged the director general of police (DGP) to initiate a high level enquiry into the firing incident.
