The Jorhat Branch of Inner Wheel Club launches Mission Mamta in Jorhat.

The Jorhat Branch of Inner Wheel Club has launched Mission Mamta, the Club’s mission to make India orphan free by 2024, at Baligaon LP School here.

Jaya Bajaj,  president of Inner Wheel Club,  Jorhat Branch said that the school had three to four orphans, who would be fostered by the Inner Wheel Club  and their performances in school would also be monitored.

“This is to kick start the Mission Mamta, Inner Wheel Club’s mission to make India Orphans free by 2024 with ‘Adopt, Foster or Sponsor’  being  the new mantra for this all women’s organisation,” Bajaj  said.

She further said that the Club, which has branches all over India, will spread awareness among the people, encouraging them to adopt, foster or sponsor an orphan.

“IWC Jorhat has been working with the school for last three years when Aditi Bezbaruah, head of the department of Physics, Jorhat Engineering College was the president of the club,” she said.

“We have given the school a new roof, ceiling, electricity, fans with the aid of the MLA’s fund.  Apart from this we have provided, almirahs, desk and benches and books,” Bajaj added.

This week about 37 children of the school were given stationery items, note books and colouring books, she said.

Bajaj said that among the IWC members who had attended that day were Sangita Jain, Deepa Dutta, Rupanjali Phukan, Aditi Bezbaruah and Meenakshi Sharma.

She said that they would also visit Hopeline, an organisation here which works with underprivileged children and the Dagaon orphanage.

“As Nirmal Hriday under the Missionaries of Charity here has winded up about two years ago, there is no point going there,” she further said.

Bajaj further said that they would also ask like-minded organisations to join hands.
