Congress MP from Barpeta constituency Abdul Khaleque has come down heavily on the Assam Government over the new proposed Assam Cattle Bill.
MP Khaleque said that if slaughter of cows and sale of beef is to banned in 5-kilometre radius of temples, then slaughter of pigs and sale of pork 500 metres around mosques should also be banned, as pork is forbidden in Islam.
He said that the provisions of the new Cattle Bill introduced by the Assam Government’s in the Assembly would strike balance if slaughter of pigs and sale of pork is also banned near mosques.
“Pork is haram (forbidden) in Islam. The new Bill will strike a balance if the State government bans slaughter of pigs and sale of pork, 500 metres around mosques and religious other religious places of Islam,” Assam Congress MP Abdul Khaleque said.

On the other hand, Khaleque said that the new Assam Cattle Bill will inspire anti-social elements for mob lynching in the State.
“Provisions of the new Bill will encourage mob lynching in the State,” Assam Congress MP Abdul Khaleque said.
He added that the current provisions of the Assam Cattle Bill are heavily one sided and are meant to fulfil the agenda of BJP-RSS.
Khaleque said: “It is a fundamental right of every citizen of India to be able to choose what he or she eats. The Constitution of India gives that right. It is nothing like that if a Muslim does not eat beef, he is not a Muslim. That’s a wrong notion.”
