An awareness meet aimed to apprise the people on the Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana –“Saubhagya” was held at the conference hall of the SDO(Civil), Bhergaon on Saturday.

The programme was presided over by the  Paneri MLA, Kamali Basumatary.

In her speech Basumatary said that this scheme is to provide energy access to all by last mile connectivity and electricity connections to
all remaining un-electrified households in rural as well as urban areas to achieve universal household electrification in the country.

She further stated that the connection will be free of cost for the people who have BPL cards. She also exhorted the people to save power
by proper use of electrical appliances.

BTC Deputy Speaker Nerswn Boro said that this scheme will provide free electrical connection to about 3.7 crores people till year
2019. APDCL official, Kamala Kanta Pegu added that in this scheme the residences will get connection on the spot and messages will be given in their personal mobile phones and some free electrical items will also be provided.

An interactive session was also held where the people got their various queries answered. The programme concluded with ceremonious distribution of connection appliances to five BPL families.
