A day after being appointed as the new health minister of Assam, Keshab Mahanta on Wednesday visited a number of Covid Care Centres including the Girijananda Chowdhury Institute of Management and Technology (GIMT), Guwahati.
Before his visit to GIMT, Guwahati, which has been turned into a Covid Care Centre, the new health minister of Assam visited Guwahati Medical College Hospital (GMCH).
The Covid Care Centre at GIMT Guwahati, located at Azara, has a bed capacity of 700.
The prominent technical institute in Guwahati, which is administered under the guidance of Shrimanta Shankar Academy (SSA) Society, was also used as a Covid Care Centre after the first wave of Covid19 hit Guwahati.
The minister informed that he had a discussion with the GMCH officials and asked them to speed up the measures to bring the Covid19 situation under control and boost the state’s health department.
While sharing a picture of the meeting, Mahanta tweeted: “In discussion with the GMCH officials to speed up the measures to bring the Covid-19 situation under control and boost the state’s health department.”
Health minister Mahanta also visited the Mahendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital (MMCH), which has been converted into a Covid Care Centre.
Talking to media persons, Mahanta said he has asked the health officials to increase the ICU bed capacity in GMCH and MMCH to 200 within next 25 days.
The health minister also visited the Govt. Ayurvedic College and Hospital at Jalukbari, which has also been turned into a Covid Care Centre, Assam Engineering College and Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) at Kahikuchi in the city.
The alertness on the part of the new health minister regarding the state’s Covid19 situation has brought hopes to the people of Assam.
