The death of 80-year-old COVID19 positive patient, who passed away at the Jorhat Medical College Hospital (JMCH) on Saturday evening, has been declared as a non-COVID19 death.

Jorhat deputy commissioner Roshni A Korati on Sunday confirmed the death of 80-year-old Anju Chetia, who was a COVID19 positive patient.

The DC said, “The cause of Anju Chetia’s death as per the Death Audit Board is non-COVID. However, cremation was carried out as per COVID protocol.”

Earlier, the death of Talebuddin Ahmed of Titabar in the district, who was a COVID19 positive patient and had heart ailment, was not considered to be a death due to COVID19 infection by the Death Audit Board, as per reports.

Ahmed, who died at 3.30 am on June 14 while undergoing treatment at Jorhat Medical College Hospital (JMCH), was the second COVID19 patient, who lost his life in the hospital at Jorhat.

On Saturday, another person, identified as Sushil (Sisir) Shyamal, a 62-year plumber from Odisha, died of COVID19 infection.

Jorhat reported the first COVID19 death with the demise of 38-year old Ashish Sahewala, a businessman on July 12 and the third was of 66-year-old Dibyajyoti Burahgohain of Rajabari Road here.

The deputy commissioner further informed that 50 new cases were detected on Sunday out of which 47 had no travel history.

The DC further said out of 37 persons, who had Rapid Antigen tests, at the screening centre in the Girls’ HS School centre, 8 tested positive.

All these cases are from Horizon Colony.

The total cases of Jorhat stand at 798 out of which 300 have been discharged and 490 are active cases.
