Widely appreciated much talked about Assamese feature film Aei Maatite, based on witch hunting issue, is travelling across Assam with special shows.

Made under the banner of Angeekar Films, the debut feature film of eminent theatre personality and educationist Dr Sitanath Lahkar was commercially released last month across the state.

After its release, Aei Maatite received huge appreciation from cine lovers. People from all walks of life lauded the effort of the makers for the film, which is based on witch hunting issue. Social media was flooded with common viewers’ reactions with warm applauds on the film.

Following such warm response from the people of Assam, the director of the film has now decided to take Aei Maatite across various places of the state and organise special shows with local organisations.

Already, a special screening of the film took place at Tezpur University on October 24. On November 18, two special shows will take place at Sarbhog in Barpeta. From December 1 to 8, altogether nine shows of the film have been organised at Nalbari town.

On November 20, two special shows of Aei Maatite have been organised at the District Library Auditorium in Guwahati.

“After the commercial release, we have been getting requests from people to screen the film at different places. As the film is based on witch hunting issue, which is affecting people in rural areas and smaller towns, we are particularly interested to take the film to as many people possible as we can. Good thing is that many local youths and organisations have come forward to screen Aei Maatite across different places,” he added.

The movie is an adaptation of Dr Lahkar’s famous stage play Tamasaa on the burning problem of witch hunting. The Story, Screenplay, Dialogues and Lyrics have also been penned by Dr. Lahkar, a retired Principal of Cotton College.
