Guwahati : A youth from Assam was arrested by police for extending his support over Bangladesh unrest via a social media post recently.
The accused, identified as Rezuwan Ulla Mazarbhuiya, was arrested by Hailakandi Police from his residence at ward number 5 in Rangpur under Lala Police Station.
The 24-year-old, in a post on Facebook, called for a similar outcome of the violent situation in Bangladesh also in India.
Rezuwan, who wrote his controversial in Bengali, also claimed that the impact of the unrest in the neighbouring country will also be felt in Assam.
“After Bangladesh, now it’s time for India. Bangladesh’s impact will soon be witnessed in Assam,” he wrote.
He also mentioned links to the militant organization Al-Qaeda in subsequent comments. The police are questioning him to establish any terror links.
He had been arrested in connection with a case of unlawful activities, criminal conspiracy, promoting enmity between groups and waging war against the government.
Bangladesh has been reeling under violent protests over a quota system reserving 30 per cent of government jobs for families of Bangladesh’s 1971 war of independence veterans.
Over 400 people have been killed in the violent protests that begun on June.
Bangladesh’s Nobel Laureate Muhammad Yunus took oath as the head of the interim government, days after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was forced to resign and flee amid violent protests across the country.
The 84-year-old economist was sworn in as the chief advisor in a ceremony attended by political leaders, civil society leaders, generals and diplomats at the presidential palace in Dhaka.
A 16-member council of advisers, not ministers, also took oath as a part of the Muhammad Yunus led interim government in Dhaka on Thursday.
The council also included Nahid Islam and Asif Mahmud, top leaders of the Students Against Discrimination group, which led the weeks-long protests that ousted Hasina.
