A series of events were organized at Silchar town of Assam’s Cachar district on Monday to mark the International Youth Day.
The day was observed in Silchar after a week it was observed all across the world.
The International Youth Day is observed on August 12 every year.
Owing to the festival of Eid-ul-Azha, coinciding with the International Youth Day, which is observed on August 12, this time, the Cachar district administration started observing the International Youth Day three days back.
The series of events culminated with a grand finale on Monday.
On Monday, the day began with a rally titled ‘Walk for life’ with the theme “Be educated about HIV” from Silchar’s civil hospital, wherein hundreds of students from various colleges and nursing institutes participated.
Flagging off the rally, Cachar Deputy Commissioner Laya Madduri, talking to Northeast Now said, “International Youth Day is celebrated every year on August 12, but we are holding it in a grand manner this day.”
“Our main objective is to spread the message of youths staying away from addiction and its hazards and likewise, be educated about HIV,” said, Laya Madduri.
Madduri added, “A meeting will be held at Silchar’s Banga Bhawan where participation of the youths would be tantamount for spreading the message of staying healthy.”
“The youths should come up a step forward and help in developing their communities instead of falling prey to hazardous addictions and even get affected by HIV,” said Madduri.
All round the week, competitions were held in various mediums for the college-going students to enhance their skill and creativity.
Short filmmaking of seven-minute duration, skit presentation of 10 minutes and poster making competitions were held in Zilla Parishad office premises, with the sole theme of “Choose life not HIV”.
An inter-college debate competition was also held at Banga Bhawan this evening, with the grave topic of “Social media is making the youths anti-social”.
