At a time when various temples and places of religious importance have received grants from the government under various schemes a temple in Paneri Bagicha area of Assam’s Udalguri district built way back in 1991 which is in the dilapidated condition is crying for renovation.

The temple complex dedicated to all the Hindu Gods and Goddesses comprising brick-built main temple houses Goddess Kali, Ganesha, Goddess Durga among others.

According to reports, the temple built by a medical practitioner, Ranjit Paul through his hard-earned money is lying in dilapidated condition as it has not undergone timely renovation. .

“Devotees from length and breadth of Assam including Guwahati, Tezpur, Mangaldai, Barpeta, Dibrugarh visit the temple every year during this season but this time due to the COVID-19 pandemic there are no visitors,” said a local resident Sukumar Sutradhar.

“The stucco sculptures and ornamental designs on the superstructures are peeled off, cracks and crevices have developed and vegetation has grown all over losing its antiquarian and aesthetic character. The temple calls for early restoration and I urge Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal to visit the temple and make necessary arrangements for its restoration,” he said.

The government must adopt measures to aid the temple and safeguard the structures by restoring them to their past glory for posterity,” he added.
