In a tragic incident, two elephants were electrocuted to death in Assam’s West Karbi Anglong district.
The incident took place at Bagorighat in West Karbi Anglong late on Tuesday night.
Locals upon spotting the carcasses of the two elephants informed the Forest Department, officials of which rushed to the spot immediately.
Forest Department officials from the Southern Range rushed to the spot immediately and took necessary steps.
The two elephants – one male and one female, came in contact with a low hanging 33 kilo volt power cable, which resulted in them getting electrocuted to death.
The locals, meanwhile, have blamed the Assam State Electricity Board (ASEB), for their ‘callousness’ in allowing the high voltage power cable hanging low.

It may be mentioned here that a herd of wild elephants numbering over 20 had been strolling in areas near Kheroni of West Karbi Anglong for over two months now.
The elephants who stay in sugarcane fields throughout the day, wander out of the fields in the evening to nearby villages in search for food.
Alleged rampant deforestation by timber mafia in the districts of Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong is believed to be the reason behind rising cases of man-elephant conflict in the area.
Timber from the forests of the two districts of Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong are allegedly smuggled to neighbouring Meghalaya, where it is in high demand.
