With onion prices touching Rs 100 and above per kilogram in Assam, the BJP led government in the State plans to import onions from Egypt.
Assam food and civil supplies minister Phani Bhushan Choudhury said this while talking to newsmen during the on-going session of Assam Legislative Assembly on Thursday.
“We are planning to import onions from Egypt and this onion will be made available in the market at around Rs 55 per kg,” he said.
The BJP led government in Assam has drawn flak over the price rise of essential commodities including onions.
Assam requires about 4.5 lakh MT of onion annually.
