The fire also reduced six adjacent houses of Hussain to ashes.

A three-year-old girl child died in a fire that broke out in her house on Wednesday in Lower Assam’s Goalpara district.

The flames that erupted around 11 am in one of the thatched roof houses at Ramharichar Part 3 under Pancharatna River police station of the district also left three others injured.

The child been identified as Samina Khatun, daughter of one Sanowar Hussain.

The fire also reduced six adjacent houses of Hussain to ashes.

Hussain, his father Sukumuddin, and another member of the family sustained injuries while trying to douse the fire.

Sofiqul Islam, officer in charge of the nearby Boguan police station, who rushed to the spot immediately, said, “The area doesn’t fall under my police station but as the Pancharatna River Station is far from the spot, I just thought that my team could extend help to the family. However, everything was over when we reached the spot.”

“Prima face, the fire broke out from the kitchen of the hatched roof house. Due to seasonal wind, it spread so quickly that before one could do anything, all the six houses completely gutted,” Islam said.
