Three unidentified suspected Bangladeshi cattle smugglers were killed by a mob at Bogrijan Tea Estate under Patharkandi Police Station in south Assam’s Karimganj district, police said.
Karimganj Superintendent of Police (SP) Kumar Sanjit Krishna on Sunday said, “On enquiry it was revealed that the suspected Bangladeshi nationals had illegally crossed the international border with a motive of stealing cattle from the vicinity. They were killed by unknown miscreants on July 18.”
SP Krishna further said that rope, fencing cutter, wire, bags and food items made in Bangladesh were recovered from the possession of the slain cattle smugglers.
Follow-up action and further investigation is under process, he added.
Police also informed that talks are being held with the Border Guards of Bangladesh (BGB) through the BSF regarding identification of the suspected Bangladeshi nationals.
According to BSF, hundreds of cattle were illegally sent from India to Bangladesh within a couple of days this week.
