A three-member high-level team constituted by the union petroleum ministry on Friday visited Baghjan to take stock of the ongoing operation at Baghjan 5 oil well.
The three-member team comprised Shashi Shanker, Chairman and Managing Director of ONGC, Amar Nath, Joint Secretary (Exploration), Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, and SCL Das, Director General, Directorate General of Hydrocarbon.
“After visiting Baghjan they directly went to Duliajan for a review meeting held between the top officials of OIL,” said a source.

OIL has diverted the gas to the flare pit and Baghjan EPS for production purposes. The Baghjan no 5 oil well is still blazing.
However, the Baghjan crisis has already created a problem for the local population of the Baghjan area owing to the damages of the houses and destroying the ecology of the Maguri-Motapung beel.
“We can’t say when the fire will be control completely and we can go home. Our tea garden and other properties were damaged due to the massive fire. Several months have passed but still, the OIL authority has failed to control the fire,” said a villager of Baghjan.
The well no 5 at Baghjan has been spewing gas uncontrollably on May 27. It caught fire on June 9 killing two Oil’s firefighters at the site.
