Assam swimmer Astha Choudhury has brought laurels to the State and country by winning five medals including two gold and three silver at the Xth Asia Pacific Youth Games in Russia’s Vladivostok.

Astha bagged gold medals in 4×50 metre mixed freestyle and 4×50 mixed individual medley relay categories.

Apart from the gold medals, Astha also won silver medals in 100 metre freestyle, 200 metre freestyle and 100 metre individual medley categories.

Daughter of Rupam Choudhury and Monika Choudhury, the 14-year-old girl hails from Sivasagar district of Assam.

The swimmers, who represented the Indian contingent at the 10th Asian Pacific Youth Games included two girls and two boys.

The other three swimmers, who represented India in the international sports event, include Jhanvi Chaudhary and Swadesh Mondal of West Bengal and Veer Khatkar of Haryana.

The 10th Asia Pacific Youth Games will conclude on September 8, 2019.

According to reports, seven countries have participated in the event including hosts Russia, India, Japan, Thailand, China, North Korea and South Korea.

In the 50m, 100m and 200 m freestyle events, Veer Khatkar won gold.

On the other hand, Swadesh Mondal established his class in the 100 m individual medley by winning gold.

Jhanavi Choudhury won two gold medals in the 50 m freestyle and 200 m freestyle and one bronze in the 100 m freestyle.
