The Anusuchit Jati Yuba Chatra Parishad has taken to the streets to protest against the non-fulfillment of their several demands.

The youths carrying banners and shouting slogans staged a dharna in front of the Jorhat district social welfare department on Wednesday demanding the raising of one-time financial assistance given by the government to unemployed youths of the community from Rs 25000 to Rs 50000.

The students’ body also demanded the setting up of a scheduled caste (SC) development board in the Jorhat subdivision, among others.

President of Jorhat unit of Anusuchit Jati Yuba Chatra Parishad, Mukti Nath Das and general secretary Amrit Pran Das said that the construction of the hostel for SC students had begun in 2018 and was supposed to be completed by 2019.

However, it is yet to be completed.

“This facility is very important for the backward SC community, but the government is delaying in completing the work,” Mukti Nath Das said.

The organization further demanded an inquiry into alleged anomalies into the distribution of various items to beneficiaries of the community by the social welfare department.

It also demanded that the Ambedkar Bhawan in Jorhat be dedicated to the people of the SC community.
