Six houses were gutted in a fire in Pujakhola area of Tangla town on Tuesday night.

The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.

There was also a report that six cylinders also blasted in the fire, destroying property worth of lakhs.

The houses destroyed in the fire belonged to Fakira Ansari, Manik Ali, Bhim Ram, Raj Kumar Prasad, Akon Rabha and Sankar Basfor.

“We lost all our belongings including educational certificates of my daughter,” said Sankar Basfor.

According to sources, properties worth around thirty lakhs was destroyed in the fire.

“The fire tenders from Tangla and Khoirabari doused the fire within minutes or else the devastation would have been massive,” said Tangla Municipal Board vice-chairman Sankar Sarkar.

Tangla Municipal Board also distributed ration and clothes to the victim families.

Paneri MLA Kamali Basumatari also visited the families and assured of financial assistance.
