The Sivasagar district administration of eastern Assam has launched a programme christened ‘Morom’ under its signature mission ‘Soulful Sivasagar’.

Through this programme, the district administration has made an attempt to extend a helping hand to the needy people of the district.

The programme was launched at the Circuit House in Sivasagar on Sunday by the deputy commissioner Dr M S Lakshmi Priya in presence of other administrative officials and general public.

The programme received overwhelming response from the general people on the day of launch itself.

In this recent programme under ‘Soulful Sivasagar’, the deputy commissioner urged the people to generously contribute old and unused but clean clothes, winter wears, shoes and books, copies and other essential items to the needy people.

Dr Lakshmi Priya also said people can buy new items and contribute the same if they wishes.

The deputy commissioner said that the contribution should not be made with a attitude of donation, but of compassion.

Dr Lakshmi Priya urged one and all to join hands and make this programme a grand success.

She also said to build a beautiful world, we all need to work together with love, compassion and fellow-feeling.

The deputy commissioner also formally launched a store room at the Circuit House to keep the items contributed under the ‘Morom’ programme.

The district administration will streamline the systematic distribution of the collected items among the needy people in a regulated manner.

Witnessing the positive and genuine cooperation towards the ‘Morom’ programme, the deputy commissioner also thanked the general public.

In the preliminary stage, a vehicle will collect the items from all the 14 wards of Sivasagar town.

At a later stage, the programme will be extended to the rural areas.

The ASHA workers and the Civil defence volunteers are going to extend their cooperation in this initiative.

The launch programme was also attended by additional deputy commissioners Junumoni Sonowal, Moon Gogoi and Bidit Das, chairperson of municipal board Mridushmita Singha, executive officer of municipal board Rituraj Bordoloi, assistant commissioner Manali Prasad Rajak, accountant of district children and adolescent cell Mridul Baruah, representatives from various NGOs and general public.
