GUWAHATI: A man, originally hailing from Assam, has been sent to a prison term of 82 years by a court in Kerala.

The Kerala court sent the Assam man to 82 years imprisonment for repeatedly raping and impregnating his minor step daughter.

The sentence was passed by Perumbavoor Fast Track Special Court judge Dinesh M Pillai on Wednesday (January 31).

The accused, originally from Assam and currently residing in Kerala, faces a maximum term of 20 years for each of the crimes he committed.

Additionally, the court imposed a fine of Rs 1.1 lakh on the convict, stipulating that it be paid as compensation to the victim if recovered from the offender.

The girl, who hails from West Bengal, was raped for five days by her stepfather who threatened her with a knife at their place of residence near Kuruppampady.

Perumbavoor Fast Track Special Court judge Dinesh M Pillai sentenced the man to 20 years each for four different offences under the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act and two years under the Juvenile Justice Act for a total of 82 years.
