Dilip Kr Hazarika

Guwahati: Dilip Kr Hazarika, a senior advocate of the Gauhati High Court and actor, passed away in Guwahati on Thursday evening. He was 92.

Hazarika, popularly known as Okuda, breathed his last at his residence in the city’s Uzan Bazar area. He is survived by his son and daughter. His wife predeceased him.

The renowned lawyer, who originally hailed from upper Assam’s Sivasagar, acted in a few films, including Maniram Dewan (1964). In the film, directed by Sarbeshwar Chakraborty, Hazarika played the role of Piyoli Baruah.

Hazarika was influenced by the value-based politics of former Assam Chief Minister late Chandra Chandra Saikia and joined the NCP. He was also associated with various democratic movements in Assam.

In the 1990s, Hazarika also wrote articles on cinema, culture, and politics for the Assamese dailies Aji, Natun Samay, and Asomiya Pratidin. His writings were known for their clarity, insight, and wit. He was a respected voice in Assamese culture and society, and his contributions will be missed.
