A total of Rs 12 lakh fake notes of denomination of Rs 500 have been seized in Nagaon on Sunday.

A team of Nagaon police led by additional superintendent of police Rosie Kalita arrested six persons in connection with the seizure of fake notes.

Apart from the fake notes, a fake note printing machine, one motorcycle and some mobile phones have been seized by the police.

Acting on a tip-off, the Nagaon police had launched a search operation at three villages – Gendhali Bebejia, Sonaribali and Amoni – located in Samaguri circle of Nagaon district.

The police arrested two persons named Chirod Borgohain and Mahim Gogoi from Gendhali Bebejia village.

One person named Kamal Uddin had been apprehended from Sonaribali village.

Another three persons have been caught at a hotel in Amoni village.

They had been identified as Suraj Ali, Rashid Ali and Billal Hussain.

The six persons have been reported carrying out the printing of fake notes at a rented house belonging to one Chirod Borgohain in Gendhali Bebejia village.

The accused persons are currently being interrogated by the police.

The police will also carry out further search operations in the district to catch more such miscreants involved in fake note circulation racket.
