Guwahati: A day after Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma claimed that Assam Congress leader Rana Goswami was most welcome to join the BJP, the latter resigned from his post as Vice President of APCC and as an active member of the Indian National Congress.

In the resignation letter addressed to the General Secretary (Organisational) KC Venugopal, Goswami wrote, “I beg to state that I am tendering my resignation as the working President of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee and as an active member of the Indian National Congress.”

It may be mentioned that there had been several speculations that Goswami would join the BJP which in the past he had denied several times.
