Lakhimpur: An investigation has been initiated against Rima Das, a Sub Divisional Officer (SDO) of Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd (APDCL) in Nowboicha, Lakhimpur district, after a video showing her engaging in misconduct went viral on social media.
The video depicts SDO Das and her driver in a confrontation with an elderly customer who had defaulted on his power bill payments.
In the footage, Das is seen demanding immediate payment of the outstanding bills. When the customer explained his inability to pay and requested additional time, Das threatened to confiscate his belongings.
The video also shows Das’s driver forcibly removing power cables from the customer’s residence.
This incident has sparked widespread outrage on social media, leading the district administration to take swift action by launching an official enquiry into the conduct of the APDCL officer.
The district administration has assured the public that the matter will be thoroughly investigated, and appropriate action will be taken based on the findings.
Earlier, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had directed the Lakhimpur district administration to investigate the matter.
