Police from Dalgaon police station in Assam’s Darrang district reportedly seized a large quantity of rice under Public Distribution System.
The rice was seized from the campus of a madrassa allegedly kept for illegal sale, hoarding and transportation.
According to reports received, a section of conscious locals on Monday found an auto pick up van carrying some bags of rice inside the Dalgaon Madrassa where the bags have been unloaded.
The people on inquiry came to know that the whole lot of rice contained in 26 different bags each weighing fifty kilos is actually allotted for the poor beneficiary families under Kalyan Cooperative Society under Dalgaon police station.
The matter was immediately brought to the notice of Dalgaon police who subsequently seized the smuggled rice.
Meanwhile, locals including a section of members of the cooperative society have alleged that an unholy nexus between a section of office bearers of the society and rice smugglers which is patronized by one member of the society has been going for long.
However, every time the corrupt office bearers managed everything in pen and papers.
Some two months back in a similar situation, locals with the help of police seized 44 bags of PDS rice allotted to the same cooperative society from the campus of a private rice mill and even then no visible action as per law has allegedly been executed.
