Guwahati: An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) belonging to the Assam Police has been put on reserve duty after he was found to “allegedly” have connections with a cattle smuggling racket.

The official has been identified as an ASI post at the Jorabat Police Outpost.

Motleb Ali has been placed on reserve duty following accusations of involvement in a cattle smuggling ring, a source said.

Reports alleged that Ali not only turned a blind eye to the illegal cattle trade but also engaged in extortion activities.

He was also charged with additional accusations of neglecting his official duties.

A departmental inquiry against Ali has also been initiated.
