DIBRUGARH: Parents of Amritpal Singh, the pro-Khalistan separatist and MP-elect from Khadoor Sahib Lok Sabha constituency in Punjab, visited their son at Dibrugarh central jail in Assam.

Upon their arrival, Amritpal Singh’s mother, Balwinder Kaur, distributed sweets to the jail staff, which she had brought from Punjab.

She also brought a new set of clothes for her son to wear at the upcoming oath-taking ceremony in Parliament.

Both parents, Tarsem Singh and Balwinder Kaur, entered the jail to meet their son, who has been imprisoned since April 23, 2023, following his arrest under the National Security Act (NSA).

Amritpal Singh, leader of the Waris Punjab De group, managed to win the electoral race for the Khadoor Sahib constituency from his prison cell in Assam, securing 4,04,430 votes.

His victory was achieved against Congress’s Kulbir Singh Zira, who garnered 2,07,310 votes, and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)’s Laljit Singh Bhullar, who received 1,94,836 votes.

Singh was arrested last year during a massive crackdown and has been held at Dibrugarh central jail in Assam.

In addition to Amritpal Singh, nine of his top aides are also incarcerated at the Dibrugarh central jail in Assam.

These aides include Papalpreet Singh, Daljeet Singh Kalsi, Kulwant Singh Dhaliwal, Varinder Singh Johal, Gurmeet Singh Bhukhanwala, Harjit Singh, Basant Singh, Gurinder Singh Aujla, and Bhagwant Singh, also known as Pradhan Mantri Bajeke.
