Amid the success story in curing coronavirus patients in Assam’s Dhemaji district, a nurse entrusted in quarantine duty at Dhemaji Civil Hospital has tested COVID-19 positive for the first time.
District Health department sources said she was engaged in the quarantine centre for some days.
Her swab sample for COVID-19 test, which was collected on June 22, has reported as positive on Wednesday.
Transmission of Coronovirus from patient to health worker is causing serious concern for the Health department officers, who are now busy in contact tracking of the serving nurse.
Health department officials are reluctant to disclose details in this regard, but said that all persons who come in primary and secondary contacts of the nurse would be tested.
On the other hand, the Health department of the district tested 6,756 swab samples, out of which 122 reported COVID-19 positive.
The medical authority already released 90 coronavirus patients after they tested negative in two consecutive reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) tests.
Presently, 32 active COVID-19 cases, out of which 15 are undergoing treatment in Dhemaji Civil Hospital and rest 17 in Silapathar Model Hospital.
The authority has sealed Dhemaji Civil Hospital for three days as preventive measure to control further transmission of covid-19 among the health staff and hospital patients.
