DHS Kanoi College

Another chapter has been added to the glorious history of the prestigious DHS Kanoi College at Dibrugarh in Upper Assam.

The college has established the first modern science laboratory affiliated with the North East Council’s (NEC) Central Instrumentation Facility (CIF).

The laboratory is the first of its kind among the colleges of North East India, established for the benefit of science students and the teacher-researchers of the college.

Many state-of-the-art instruments have been added to this laboratory at a cost of approximately Rs 5 crore.

As stated the laboratory has started a new journey with the addition of almost 23 high capacity instruments such as DNA sequencer, Gradient PCR, FT-IR spectrometer, C-H-N-S-Analyser, Laboratory Brightfield Microscope, pH meter, Laminar air flow, Hot air oven, Magnetic stirrer cum hot plate and Refrigerated centrifuge.

Circulating water bath, Incubator shaker, UV-Visible spectrophotometer, Rotary evaporator, RT-polymerase chain reaction system, HPLC system, Water purification system, Measuring balance, Laboratory autoclave, Deep freezer, Acid-resistant fume hood, Microbial identification system and Turbidity meter are also in the laboratory.

It is stated that the DNA sequencer machine worth Rs 1.5 crore is the fifth of its kind in entire Northeast India.

All types of inherited diseases and gene disorders of all organisms can be detected with the help of DNA Sequencer machine.

Dr. Sashi Kanta Saikia, Principal, DHS Kanoi College, expressed that with the establishment of this laboratory there would be a huge impact in the field of research in Northeast India.

The researchers from other institutions or fields may also take the advantage of the laboratory along with the students and teachers of the college.

The laboratory will be open for use soon.
