Extending support towards the government’s efforts to contain the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), a 95-year-old retired teacher from Assam’s Bajali area in Barpeta district donated Rs 25,000 to Assam Arogya Nidhi.

Till 10 pm on April 13, a total of 43,867 people contributed Rs 95.13 crore to the Assam Arogya Nidhi to fight COVID-19.

Pensioner Sadananda Sarma and his wife Bhagawati Devi handed over a cheque of Rs 25,000 to Phani Pathak, an executive member of the state committee of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Sadananda Sarma served as a teacher in 204 No. Saru Manikpur Primary School.

The couple was felicitated by BJP leader Phani Pathak at Doisingori Uttar Suba village in Barpeta district for their gesture.

Later, Pathak submitted the cheque to the Bajali sub-divisional officer (civil), Nayan Jyoti Bhagabati.

The couple has no children.

The couple’s contribution towards the government’s efforts to combat the deadly disease has drawn attention of all.
