Hundreds of students in Lakhimpur were allegedly left hungry on Thursday as Akshaya Patra Foundation (APF) failed to meet the midday meal demand on the first day of its service.

APF has been assigned with the duty to supply midday meal in Lakhimpur district and the first day in service was allegedly marred with several irregularities and insufficiencies.

Madharam LP School, No. 3 Nakari LP School, Bogeenadi LP School, Gagaldubi LP School and Mazgaon LP School are some of the schools where lunches did not reach at all.

Several schools received an insufficient amount of lunch in the form of rice and dal only. The supposed green vegetables included in the menu were missing.

In Bogeenadi HS School, the lunch sent by APF could feed only twenty students whereas the school has over three hundred students.

Several schools complained of watery dal in the lunch.

There is a stir by Mid-Day Meal workers against the state government’s decision to hand over the midday meal scheme to APF.
