North-East Affected Area Development Society (NEADS), a local civil society organisation, is doing a yeoman’s service by supplying oxygen concentrators, as part of Covid 19 second wave response, in Jorhat, Golaghat and Sivasagar districts of Assam.
NEADS joint director Tirtha Prasad Saikia said that the objective was to offer emergency assistance to Covid care centers, public health institutions and domiciliary care in communities.
“With the mission of improving oxygen availability in the worst-affected areas, NEADS has been providing oxygen concentrators to give life support,” Saikia said.
The objective of the mission is to deliver lifesaving oxygen supportive care to those public health institutions, covid care centres and communities who need it the most, as quickly as possible.
NEADS ‘Oxygen Concentrators Bank’ become operational on June 12 and the organisation has provided six concentrators for emergency assistance at Covid care centres in Sivasagar district with the help of Joint Director of Health Services and the authority of District Civil Hospital.
Currently NEADS is running the oxygen bank programme with 30 units of oxygen concentrators. More units are likely to be added soon.

Till date NEADS has provided oxygen concentrators at Sivasagar Civil Hospital, Swahid Kamala Miri Civil Hospital- Bokakhat, Kakojan BPHC, Borhola Community Health Centre (CHC) – Titabar, Teok FRU Hospital, Nakachari Block Primary Health Centre (BPHC) and Owguri MHPC for emergency assistance to covid patients getting treatment at the center.
NEADS Oxygen Concentrators Bank Programme is operational in the districts of Jorhat, Golaghat and Sivasagar.
Saikia said that Humanitarian Aid International (HAI), Sony Pictures India Network and Swasth have supported NEADS in this endeavour.
