Amidst the changing political dynamics in the Bodo belt ahead of BTC polls, NDFB (P) chief Govinda Basumatary joined the Pramod Boro-led United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL).
Govinda Basumatary joined the political party at a ceremonious event held in Udalguri on Wednesday.
Basumatary said the UPPL party is currently holding meetings to prepare the roadmap ahead of the ensuing elections in the four districts Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa and Udalguri.
Robindra Basumatary, president of the Udalguri unit of UPPL, also welcomed Govinda Basumatary into the party fold.

After joining the UPPL, Govinda Basumatary told media persons that the NDFB is yet to be formally disbanded.
The disbanding of the outfit will pave the way for its members to be part of the mainstream society and fight for political rights, said Basumatary.
If the third Bodo Accord is implemented in letter and spirit only then peace and development will reign supreme in the region, he added.
This comes on the heels of Bodo student leader Pramod Boro’s induction into the party.

Pramod Boro, who was inducted on February 22, was later appointed as the president of the party that seeks to topple the Hagrama Mohilary-led Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), an ally of the BJP-led coalition government in Dispur.
The factions of the erstwhile insurgent group National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB), which were among the signatories of Bodo Accord, were previously known as the NDFB (Ranjan), NDFB (Progressive) and NDFB (Saoraigwra) factions.
The NDFB (Progressive) has two factions including the faction led by Govinda Basumatary and the other led by Dhiren Boro.
