Digboi BJP MLA Suren Phukan on Tuesday said that a tourism fair will be held at Nazirating in Digboi in Assam’s Tinuskia district to promote the area as a tourist destination.

The three-day tourism fair is scheduled to begin on January 3 and will comprise of various cultural events.

Several local organizations, NGOs and self-help groups will participate in the fair that will highlight the need to develop the picturesque Nazirationg area along with the adjacent Duarmara Reserve Forest into a tourist spot.

Addressing the media, Suren Phukan said, “I will continue working towards promoting and developing the Nazirating area as a hot tourist destination for domestic and foreign tourist ‘, said Suren Phukan.

“The Nazirating area with its beautiful landscape and rich flora is already a favoured picnic spot and we will install modern amenities while developing it so as to draw a steady flow of tourists,” said Phukan.

The MLA also said that local people will be involved in different economically profitable activities to promote the area.

“We will utilise local resources for the benefit of unemployed youths and women of the region,” he said.

Several MPs, MLAs and other relevant personalities like Jadav Payeng, who has been credited with single handedly raising a forest in Majuli will attend the tourism fair.
