As part of their efforts against drugs and narcotic substances, the Nalbari Police on Saturday arrested a youth from a village and seized 38 containers of suspected brown sugar.

The arrested youth has been identified as Kangkan Talukdar.

He was arrested from Rapiabathan village of Kayasthasupa at Belsor area in Assam’s Nalbari district.

Informing about the arrest and the seizure, Nalbari Police on their Twitter handle on Saturday stated: “In our continuous raids against drugs and narcotics substances, one Kangkan Talukdar of village Rupiabathan, Kayasthasupa, Belsor has been apprehended by Nalbari Police with 38 containers of suspected brown sugar.”

Earlier, on August 24 last, Chirang Police arrested a drug peddler and seized 27 grams of brown sugar during an operation launched at Dhaligaon area.

The police also arrested a drug peddler, identified as Shah Dil Mohammed Khan.

Along with brown sugar, Chirang Police also sized credit cards, cheque books of different banks and some documents some documents from the vehicle used by the drug peddler.

It may be mentioned that on August 25 last, Dibrugarh Police seized a 1.14 kg of suspected brown sugar from Kalibari area of Dibrugarh town along with a cash amount of Rs 19.55 lakh.

Police said that was one of the biggest drug hauls in Upper Assam.

The estimated value of the seized contraband drugs is said to be around Rs 70 lakh in the market.

The raid in Dibrugarh was carried out by a police team led by Dibrugarh Additional Superintendent of Police Dhruba Bora in Kailibari area in the wee hours.

The police managed to recover the drugs which were kept neatly packed in silver foils.

Brown sugar is an adulterated form of heroin.

It is semi synthetic opioid derived from the morphine extracted from poppy plants.

It has aroun 20 per cent of heroin mixed with other impurities.

This drug is highly addictive in nature and is available in powder form.
