Mission Ramdhenu, the vaccination campaign for pregnant women and children, was kick-started in Lakhimpur as the district experienced the first day of the Covid19 lockdown that came into effect from Tuesday.
Lakhimpur deputy commissioner Sumit Sattawan launched the campaign for the North Lakhimpur urban area at the Circuit House on Wednesday in the presence of additional deputy commissioner (health) Gitalee Duwarah, joint director of health services Dr Mahendra Das and other officials.
Meanwhile, a round the clock complete lockdown has been imposed in Lakhimpur district from Wednesday morning.
The Assam government on Tuesday announced a complete lockdown in the Lakhimpur district and six other districts of the state due to spike in positive cases of Covid19 in recent times.
As per the stand operating procedure (SOP) issued by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), essential services like grocery shops, milk booths, vegetable sales are allowed to remain open till 5 in the evening in the district.
Lakhimpur deputy commissioner Sumit Sattawan addressed a press conference in his office at North Lakhimpur on Tuesday evening where he appealed to the public to act with responsibility in observing the lockdown in the district.
He said it is the moral duty of the citizens to observe the restrictions of the lockdown and asked the grocery shop keepers to maintain social distancing among their customers while doing their business during the lockdown period.
