Dibrugarh Police on Tuesday arrested a person for allegedly raping a 15-year girl in Dibrugarh.
The accused has been identified as Riki Ahmed alias Bicky of Kawri Patty area of Naliapool.
Dibrugarh additional superintendent of police Padmanav Baruah said, “On the basis of an FIR lodged by the family members of the victim, we have arrested a person from Kawri Patty area of Nalipool.”
“The minor was raped multiple times by the accused. According to the FIR, more than 20 times the minor was raped by the accused. The matter was not known to the family members of the victim. The family came to know about the matter just yesterday and lodged an FIR with the police,” Baruah said.
Baruah said, “We have registered a case (no 1513/20) under sections 448/376 D(A)/ 506 of the IPC, Section 4 of Protection of Child from Sexual Offence Act at Dibrugarh police station.”
“The accused has denied his role in the crime but we have circumstantial evidence against the accused. He has been sent to the judicial custody,” the police officer said.
The additional SP said, “Within one week, we will produce the chargesheet and pray for the trial in a fast-track court.”
Crimes against minors are on the rise and during the lockdown period, many cases have been reported from various places of Assam.
