The Assam and Meghalaya governments have targetted to end the decades-long inter-state border disputes by December 30, 2021.
The target to end the border dispute was revealed during a joint press conference by Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and his Meghalaya counterpart Conrad K Sangma at Koinadhara in Khanapara.
The two chief ministers addressed the media after visiting the inter-state border at Langpih.
Talking to reporters, Assam chief minister Sarma said there are a total of 12 disputed areas in the Assam-Meghalaya border.
He said both the neighbouring states have taken steps to solve the border disputes in six areas in the first phase.
The six disputed areas are – Tarabari, Gizang, Hahim, Boklapara, Khanapara-Philangkata and Ratachera.
Chief minister Sarma said they have targetted solving the border dispute in these areas by December 30, 2021.
The high-powered committee, led by agriculture minister Atul Bora, will submit its report by November 30, 021, the Assam chief minister said.
Meghalaya chief minister Conrad Sangma said the border disputes will be solved through mutual understanding.
He sought cooperation from the people in solving the problem.

Informing about the steps taken to solve the inter-state border disputes, chief minister Sarma tweeted: “As part of confidence building measure and to find lasting solution to the decade old inter-state border issue between Assam & Meghalaya, I & HCM Meghalaya Sri @SangmaConrad visited Lower Lumpi in Kamrup and attended a program there.”

While sharing a picture of his visit to Langpih along with his Meghalaya counterpart Conrad Sangma, Sarma tweeted: “Along with Hon CM of Meghalaya Sri@SangmaConrad we shall be conducting a joint inspection of Langpih, one of the villages along the Assam-Meghalaya border.”
“We’re resolute in our commitment to amicably resolve the border issue,” he added.

Chief minister Conrad Sangma also tweeted: “Hon’ble CM of Assam @himantabiswa Ji & I are on our way to conduct a joint inspection of Langpih, one of the villages along the Meghalaya-Assam border.
