Showing solidarity to the artistes of the traditional folk culture Ojapali (Byas), Assam’s Mangaldai legislator Gurujyoti Das has distributed packets of essential food items and reusable cotton face masks each to nearly 100 such artistes from the economically weaker section.

In this connection a simple distribution function obeying the requisite social distancing norms was held at the premises of Navajyoti HS School at Aulachowka near Mangaldai on Saturday.

Legislator Das in his brief ceremonial speech urged upon the artistes present to maintain social distancing and cleanliness at all spheres of day to day life style and also enquired about their health status.

The event was also attended by BJP’s several senior local leaders including its district president Amarendra Sharma and Sevali Goswami Kalita among others.

Later talking to the Northeast Now several veteran Ojapali artistes including octogenarian Chandrakanta Baisya of Dighirpar and Purna Saharia of Borongabari hailed the effort of MLA Das.

In similar fashion few days earlier packets of food stuff and face masks were also distributed at the initiative of the legislator to more than 250 artistes of the other faction this art form called ‘Suknani’.
