Twenty five persons were seriously injured in a road accident that took place at Bokakhat area in Assam’s Golaghat district on Tuesday evening.

Among the 25 injured persons including women and children, nine of them are said to be in a critical condition.

As per reports, a driver of a Tata Ace car who was in a drunken condition tried to overtake another car in National Highway 37 at Latabari area in Bokakhat.

However, the driver lost control of the vehicle leading to the injury of 25 persons who were travelling in it.

The people who were travelling in the Tata Ace car bearing registration number AS-05-C-8310 were tea workers of Methoni and Siljuri tea estates.

They were going for watching the immersion of idols of Goddess Durga at Diphlu River on the evening of Vijaya Dashami.

Locals immediately took the injured people to Bokakhat Civil Hospital. However, the nine critical persons were later admitted to Jorhat Medical College and Hospital.

Locals claimed that the drunk driver was responsible for the cause of the accident.
