Udalguri: The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption arrested a Lat Mandal and a government driver for allegedly demanding and accepting bribe in Udalguri, Assam.

The Lat Mandal was identified as Rahi Ram Mandal and government driver Dhruba Charan Nath on Tuesday for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000.

The sleuths laid a trap and caught the driver red-handed accepting the bribe in the canteen of the Kalaigaon Revenue Circle Office.

The bribe was meant for processing land-related works and this was not the first instance of corruption in the Kalaigaon Revenue Circle Office, with allegations of malpractices and mismanagement of land records.

It may be mentioned that in March 2023, another Lat Mandal identified as Kanak Baruah was arrested on graft charges.
