Mangaldai Police on Wednesday arrested Rupa Rani Bhuyan, a professor of Mangaldai College, on charges of misbehaving with police and “stopping” them from performing their duties.

The Officer-in-Charge of Mangaldai Police Station Niranjan Baruah told media that Bhuyan was asked to appear before the Mangaldai Police Station.

An FIR was registered with the Mangaldai PS against Bhuyan, for her recent “demeaning” social media posts against noted Assamese litterateur Sayed Abdul Malik.

“Bhuyan was asked to appear at the Mangalgai PS’ women cell before Sub Inspector Twinkle Goswami for interrogation,” Baruah said.

“But instead of cooperating with the investigation officer Goswami, the lady teacher misbehaved with her and created an unruly atmosphere,” Baruah added.

Later on the basis of an FIR of SI Goswami a case (No 264 /2020 u/s 353 /294 & 506 IPC) was registered against Bhuyan and was subsequently arrested and forwarded to the judicial custody.

Three cases (No 225 /2020, 236 /2020 & 241 /2020) under the IT Act have reportedly been registered in the Police Station against Bhuyan.
