Karbi militants’ group People’s Democratic Council of Karbi-Longri (PDCK) has announced a unilateral ceasefire with effect from Wednesday.
JK Lijang, the chairman of the proscribed outfit of Assam, in a statement, said that the PDCK will stop using arms from February 17 and opt for peace.
Praising Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) chief Tuliram Ronghang, the militants’ outfit said the CEM Ronghang has brought in peace paving the way for development and progress.
“PDCK would like to declare a cessation of hostile activities to create a congenial atmosphere so as to strengthen and give impetus in resolving the vexed political conflicts among all stakeholders,” Lijang said.
“PDCK expects the Government of India to respond with the same seriousness and sincerity for an amicable political solution,” he added.
Lijang said all the commanders of the Red Army of PDCK have been asked to stop all kinds of hostile activities starting from February 17, 2021.
PDCK is active in Karbi Anglong, West Karbi Anglong, Dima Hasao and some parts of Nagaon and Golaghat districts of Assam.
Earlier in November last year, police arrested the general secretary of the outfit from Karbi Anglong district.
Nongme Tungjang alias Sanjib Phangcho was arrested with arms from Thekerajan area under Bakalia police station in the hill district.
