The Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) has reiterated its opposition to the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
The AJP has said that implementation of the CAA would violate clauses 5 and 6 f the Assam Accord.
While, the clause 5 of the Assam Accord relates to detection, deletion and deportation of foreigners who entered Assam illegally after March 25, 1971, clause 6 calls for constitutional, legislative and administrative measures to safeguard, protect, preserve and promote the cultural, social, linguistic identity and heritage of the Assamese people.
“Even after spending Rs 1600 crores in updation of the National Register of Citizen (NRC), there are many flaws in the NRC. The whole government machinery was used in the Assam NRC process but a correct NRC could not published. The BJP government forcefully brought CAA in Assam to give citizenship to Hindu Bangladeshis,” a AJP leader said.

On Tuesday, the AJP staged a “Jatiya Gorjon” demonstration rally near the Chowkidinghee playground at Dibrugarh in Assam demanding scraping of the CAA.
The AJP has also demanded implementation of the fifth and sixth clause of the Assam Accord.
The AJP alleged that the CAA violates Assam Accord, as it seeks to provide Indian Citizenship to Hindus, Jain, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists and Parsis who came to India on or before December 31, 2014, from Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Meanwhile, on September 7, the Assam government had announced that it would constitute an eight-member committee, which will prepare roadmap for implementation of the Assam Accord.

The 8-member committee will include cabinet ministers and representatives of the AASU.
Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had said: “A sub-committee comprising representatives from GoA and All Assam Students Union (AASU) shall formulate the implementation framework within three months for further deliberations on implementation of provisions of Assam Accord, with special ref to clauses 6, 7, 9 & 10.”
